I spoke at length with one conservative man who used to be a friend before I told him what I really thought about conservatives in general and him specifically.  We were discussing marriage equality.  I kept drilling down into his statements such as when he said that gay marriage would destroy straight marriages.  I kept asking him to explain why and we finally came to the kernel of truth.  He didn't want the gay marriage partner to get benefits because it would cost money and could possibly take away from his benefits.  He was prejudiced because he was greedy.  Amazing.

This same man was a pilot and was gone quite a bit.  After his divorce, he had his mother (in her late 70's) live with him and watch his children.  When he got remarried after his children were grown, he kicked his 80+ year old mother to the curb and made her get her own place.  What a sweetheart.  That's when we had our break.

There's also selfishness and greed. And other kinds of bigotry. But racism is a very big one, perhaps the biggest, except perhaps misogyny.
