    issue 1: social security isn't "gov't welfare", you have to have contributed to the social security fund, before you're entitled to receive it.

    issue 2: same with medicare. you must meet certain requirements to qualify for medicare, not everyone does. see: http://www.aarp.org/...

    you'd have had a better argument, had they been receiving Medicaid benefits, which is a gov't sponsored health insurance program, for low income persons.

      However, figuratively it may have been hyperbole - the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.
