  •  I did not (0+ / 0-)

accuse anyone of being "mentally ill".  Thats the way you took it, not what I meant.

I believe that religious people are good hearted people and mean very well.    I have nothing against anyone who is religious.   However, I believe that the idea of religion does not make sense and metaphorically I called it "delusional".   I believe that religion is a defense mechanism that humans developed to deal with the fear of the unknown.  Nothing hateful from me.  How about you?

Do you think atheists and agnostics are horrible people? I hope not.

    •  Given that the definition of "delusion" includes.. (0+ / 0-)
a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary; also : the abnormal state marked by such beliefs
...can you understand why listeners/readers would make the jump from "delusional" to "mentally ill"?

I'd also point out that "indisputable evidence to the contrary" is an integral aspect of delusion; given that the existence of deity can be neither proven nor disproven by any human standard, I would suggest that the use of "delusion" is inaccurate in this context.

So, in the interest of both accuracy and the avoidance of misinterpretation, might you use a different (and, perhaps, less inflammatory) term in the future?

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...
