Would I change my mind about religion(s) in the face of evidence? Of course.
with a suggestion that you may have evidence for "positive effects of religion" before you that are not easily recognized as such.

No one gets a free pass - but neither should we play guilt-by-association games with such intensely personal/individual matters.

By all means, blast away at what folks actually say and do if you object; heck, when it comes to folks like Westboro, Franklin Graham and several of the various millionaire TV/megachurch "pastors", I'll probably be right there beside you.  That Southern Baptist preacher in Dallas who called for imprecatory prayer against President Obama?  TOTAL clown.  The folks pushing the anti-gay legislation in Uganda?  COMPLETELY in the wrong.

By the same token, however, we should acknolwedge that many persons are led to do good through their faith.  That doesn't mean that you have to accept or endorse their beliefs, but a rational approach would seem to call upon us to acknowledge its beneficial effects in such cases.

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...
