All crimes involving firearms were committed by a responsible gun owner who went through a background check, or the person who stole the gun from the clumsy responsible gun owner who went through a background check.  Look at all the crimes committed by responsible gun owners!  At least the crimes are being committed responsibly, I guess.  It's time to take the focus off the guns and put it where it belongs: responsible gun owners.  Why are so many responsible gun owners committing violent crime?  Maybe we just need to make gun violence legal? We can call it the George Zimmerman Act!  Any use of deadly force will now be justifiable with the good intentions of the shooter specified.  Then there will be no reason to impugn the good name of the people who choose to use their weapons to enforce their goodly will on the rest of us.  Utopia!

If I had a nickel for every time I thought about the gun business based on information that couldn't withstand even the most cursory examination of the data, I wouldn't be sitting here hoping that someone walks into my shop to buy a gun.
Makes you feel real secure about all the guns out there, what, with all the figgurin' going on.  I'm glad this diary is out there.  It sheds some light onto how cavalier the attitudes on the so-called "gun-rights" side are towards all the illegal weapons flooding our streets.

The diarist goes as far as to say that all gun transactions whether through a dealer of private sales undergo a background check.  Then oldpunk responds in a comment:

...the vast majority of violence committed with a firearm, whether it be, murder, robbery or assault, is committed by someone with a prior criminal record of violence, they are therefore prohibited by law from owning a firearm and cannot be considered by anyone a responsible firearm owner by any measure.
And he recced the diary!  Either people are being screened or they aren't.  I sure hope enough of our elected officials know enough to ignore most of these "arguments"
