  •  i love this diary. (9+ / 0-)

    i loved all the details.

i'm a few years behind you and didn't get a degree, but i've spent the best part of my life in the printing and publishing industry from newspapers to type houses to printing companies in proofreading, typesetting, design, layout, darkroom cameras, platemaking, selling, writing, reporting, photography, editing and handling front office walk-ins.   i've cut off part of a finger with an exacto blade (anyone with all ten perfect fingers isn't common in the printing trade!) and have been known to fix type filmstrips with rapidograph pens.  i remember being amazed at wysiwyg, to be able to see what your design looks like before printing out on that expensive film! what a luxury! i remember the smell of those awful, toxic chemicals.  i remember rubylith, i remember how it would tear if the knife wasn't perfectly, perfectly, sharp.  i remember the old waxing machines.  i have a cherished few bits of wood type in my living room.  i am the granddaughter of a woman reporter.  i am proud of the ink in my veins.

and i've been out of the business for "awhile" which means i'm going back to school (next week) to catch up and dive back in.   i am determined.
