  •  It would be more fun if ... (11+ / 0-)

it wasn't getting in the way of Congress helping President Obama getting things done that can solve the problems of high unemployment, poor infrastructure, climate change and so on.

We need a plan to use the obvious anti-people orientation of the Republican leadership to stir up voters against them enough that they start realizing that they have to do something positive.

Over and over the message must get out that the House Republicans have voted to defund Obamacare 40 times while proposing zero jobs bills and keeping jobs bills from Democrats from being voted on.

That's 40 times to hurt real people and zero times to help.  There's got to be a way to use this truth.

House Republicans have proposed zero jobs bills.

House Republicans have kept Democrats from voting on jobs

House Republicans have found the time to vote 40 times to defund Obamacare

Isn't it time the House Republicans quit their postureing and  do what they are paid to do?

    •  The damage the GOP is doing, and is (6+ / 0-)

threatening to do is unimaginable.  The situation in this country is dire and the stakes are as high as they can get.

Just for starters, destroying the planet through climate change denial and destroying the entire world economy by defaulting on our debt are on the table.

Then we can throw in things such as killing millions of people through denial of health care, gutting public education, letting out infrastructure crumble, gutting civil rights, and destroying reproductive rights.  The list could go on and on.

Unfortunately, I think the GOPs death is far less iminent than most people responding to this diary.  They will likely control the House through 2020 due to gerrymandering, and make a very real threat of winning the presidency through voter suppression and changing the way electoral votes are allocated.

The means to power do not matter to the GOP.  They will use any means necessary, and are doing it very effectively.

      •  And they have Chris Christie teeing up for (2+ / 0-)

the presidency.  Christie believes in the same right-wing agenda that House Republicans have, not so coherently, in mind, but he doesn't come off like a lunatic.  I hope the Democrats have the sense to expose him for the far-right true believer he is before the voting population gets a mistaken image of him set in their heads.  It's getting late.

Everybody scoffs when I suggest this, but all they need to do to erase that "demographics" problem is stop pushing their anti-immigration policies. A lot of the immigrant population is conservative--at least more than feel comfortable voting for Rs now, I'd be willing to bet--and they don't need all that many more Latinos on their side of the electorate to keep things gummed up forever.
It's not that hard, really. They put the religious right off for decades before landing enough votes on the SC to finally get some anti-abortion laws passed in plenty of states; why would they now be unable to do the same to the xenophobes?
