  •  What is interesting about this discussion is that (10+ / 0-)

... many actuaries, including politically-conservative actuaries, support strengthening Social Security. Actuaries see the numbers on lifetime income, and they have been especially troubled by the ability of retirees to get lump sum payments (from typical 401k plans) in lieu of monthly pension disbursements.

This is a huge issue. How will we cover a population that is living longer with less savings?

Calling other DKos members "weenies" is a personal insult and therefore against site rules.

    •  Well, we WON'T be living longer, will we? (0+ / 0-)

We certainly can't afford health care. What I can pay for is junk insurance that I can't afford to actually USE. And that's from my employer, which doesn't care whether I live or die b/c I'm just another cog to be thrown away at their will.

I do not, unlike my parents, expect to live into my 80s. And my parents both had wonderful retirement policies and health care plans...unlike my generation.

If they were still alive today (they were both 40 years older than me), I think they would be voting for Democrats, instead of the GOP.
