  •  Drove by there today, but it had already (6+ / 0-)

closed for the day :-( Definitely a favorite.

Books 'n' Things in Norway and evidently website-less Bridgton Books in Bridgton (about a twenty minute drive from each other) are are great, as is Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers in Farmington (which also has a very nice used bookshop around the corner ~ Twice Sold Tales).

While it's a bit of a drive from Apple Valley to DDG or Books 'n' Things, overall the western hills of Maine do better than average (in my opinion) for those of us who love independent bookshops ~ and the shops are in towns that attract people from a wide area for other shopping.

I haven't had a reason to go back to Buffalo since my father died; one of the reasons I miss those trips ~ Talking Leaves.

    Other things I miss:
~ the bookshops in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago.... several nice ones there in the mid/late 1980s when I was in college.
~ the shops in the Cambridge MA of my childhood.
