  •  It successfully ostracizes and isolates (13+ / 0-)

the Left and the civil liberties crowd within the Democratic Party.

Effectively kicking us off the team by so nakedly and brashly attacking our principles. We have no recourse but to pick up our votes and go home. It's either that or accept the New Normal.

To stay and interact with the Team for effective policy and community will be very difficult now, perhaps impossible.

From the moment I heard it I have wondered if this wasn't the great split to the Corporate Center that I have been thinking could be the future of our politics.

One great and powerful Center party protecting corporate profits and the powers of the State the American way of life from the dangerous Left and the crazy Right.

    •  Wowee. You just gave a name to what (9+ / 0-)

the real political structure in this country is:  Corporate Center with the Dangerous Left and the Crazy Right.  Amen, k9disc!  That's the truth of what we are dealing with now.  Never imagined I'd ever see this kind of insane situation.

      •  Bingo! And after this latest fiasco, (8+ / 0-)

I don't think a lot of folks are going to take kindly to being nagged at, verbally beaten-up, or any of the other tactics used in the past to get them to the polls.  There's a lot of members of the House that may pay a heck of a price for this crap----and I suspect some Senators as well.  It did NOT have to be this way IF that comes to pass and the administration bears the brunt of the blame IF it happens.  As in the 2010 election, thus far they've not given people much reason to show up in 2014.

          Clapper is the sensible pick.

It's inoculative, it's putting the virus into the body politic to stymie the expression of symptoms. They've been doing it for years - Rumsfeld, Cheney, Poindexter, Lanny, Summers.

The only ones who know about this is us, and we're just crazy people.

You ever try to explain the depth of this situation to a normal person? heh. This will be a breeze to paper over.

It seems to me that in doing this so nakedly they will totally out themselves amongst a significant portion of the population. But they got that nifty spy kit... /shudder

      •  Nah... (6+ / 0-)

they act as if elections don't matter.

Romney is mask off, Obama is mask on. The only thing that differs are the social bones being thrown.

Our presidential elections Are predetermined. You just have to watch the system long term.

The congress is set up so that if you keep your head down and follow orders you are unbeatable and a servant of the plutocracy for life. Very few seats change hands. it is only allowed to change hands when the partlies switch branches.

the presidency is determined years before. look at who the keynote speakers at the conventions are. And when someone like dean or mcain bucks? They go to any ends to destroy them. The collusion goes to the point of the opposition party making sure their candidate is second tier and milquetoast. Dole, Kerry, Romney..

Seriously the gop put it's money behind a moderate salesman who implemented a form of his opponents signature proposal, who made his money from outsourcing combined with a radical fringe libertarian?

We havent chosen our leaders in many many decades. At most once in a while we give the system a hiccup. Clintons role was to remove the reins from the hands of the upper class as a whole and hand  them over to the handful of board members who run the megacorps.

        •  One of the very worst things I've realized (0+ / 0-)

over the last several Presidential elections, is pretty much in agreement with what you wrote here:  our votes are essentially a farce because long before we get to primaries even, the oligarchs/plutocrats have already decided who the candidates will be and which one will win.  The Citizens United decision put the final seal and stamp of approval on the purchasing of political positions by the oligarchs/plutocrats.  I think the reason the SCOTUS gutted the Voting Rights Act is because they know our votes aren't really needed---that's all taken care of courtesy of Citizens United.  I realize some members of SCOTUS didn't vote to gut the VRA, but those 5 who did know exactly what they're doing.

        •  heh... interesting take on Clinton. Makes sense. (0+ / 0-)

He always struck me as someone who was hated because of his theft of Republican sponsorship.

That's a great angle on it. A shift from old money to new money... enter the Business of Government.

I think this is a message to the Dems in the House who voted for the Amash amendment or those who might switch to vote for it if it comes up again.  Like no other issue in recent times, the NSA separates out the beltway insiders from the rest of Congress.  Look at how the votes fell on that amendment and it is very clear that it was mostly an insider versus the come heres on that amendment.

IMHO, This is not a message to us peons.  We were cut out of the process a long time ago.

The message to us peons will simply be soothing words to mollify enough of us that we shut up.  I think that is the administration's strategy, but I do not think it will work.  The peons are pissed.
