  •  Zombie Ideas by John Quiggin (8+ / 0-)

A brilliant exposition of the theoretical underpinings of the Washington Concensus that destroyed my beloved Argentina and enabled the Crash of 2008.

It's written by an economist who blogs over at Crooked Timber.  I heartily recommend both his book and his blog.

For a good laugh, check out this article at Foreign Policy.  It contains a quick overview of the points developed at length in the book, but read it for the comments - which are a riot.  In a stunning display of lack of self awareness, the whole arsenal of discredited ideas is trotted out to blast away at the heretic.  The hysteria, the goofball logic, and the proof by accusation is a thing of wonder.
