    Although the Founders clearly didn't intend to establish a Christian nation, political rhetoric since at least the mid-19th
    has asserted that the USA is in fact such a thing.
       In the 1950s it became our "Judaeo-Christian heritage" and we were fighting "godless Communism."
       The fact that the government was actually co-opting Christianity and merging it with nationalism was the topic of much discussion among religious scholars in the 1960s.
       But, I think that what the poll shows is the degree to which people subscribe to the content free civic religion (God and Country and all that.)
       Dominionism is a different thing.
