  •  And more on the way soon... (7+ / 0-)

as we're having even more fun here in the City of Brotherly Love. Our SDP Chief William Hite just announced today that he is going to ask the School Reform Commission (the board that runs the district for the state) to unilaterally suspend the seniority system for calling back laid-off teachers and freeze our normal seniority raises. While they technically have the power to do this under the take-over law, it's in violation of most other state law and constitutional practice, not to mention the current union contract and relevant Federal laws. So if they go ahead with this, we're going to have more than one big union test-case on our hands.

I met a couple of teachers from Olney this summer at the PFT's new teacher induction institute. They were great people and we wish them all well. Hopefully, we'll all come out of this fight ahead by standing together.
