that it sounded hypocritical to condemn violence against civilians abroad, and refuse to do so at home.

The scale of the violence in Egypt is deplorable, and I did say that the President's remarks should be supported by all, however, the scale of the violence against protestors is rising here too, and that worries me.

police riot against protesters in the streets of Chicago during the 68 Democratic convention I know a little about brutality under color of law.  But I don't see  parallels between any recent overstepping by police and the mowing down murdering of civilians in Egypt.  None.

I am concerned with the militarization of local police. It's ridiculous for even small towns to have all that armor, not to mention the cost and the temptation to use it when less would be more effective.

    •  again huge difference in pepper spraying (0+ / 0-)

protesters, and shooting them with automatic weapons.

and no, there is no slippery slope argument to be made here.  If you really think that the US Government is about to send in the US Army and start shooting civilian protesters I suggest you may want to move somewhere else.

fraudulent comment is to tell people to go live somewhere else, if they don't like the politics.

        •  No, refusing to actually argue you pov (0+ / 0-)

is the oldest, tiredest, and most politically fraudulent response.  Kinda like saying "look over there!"

Please, convince me that the US Army is on the verge of shooting down unarmed peaceful protesters in the USA.  Explain to me why I should be more worried about that then, let's say, getting my daughter moved into her dorm next week.

If you really believe the President of the USA does not have the moral standing to ask another country to please stop shooting it's own citizens, then you are on the fringe with the guys who are scared of black helicopters and other right wing militia groups.

up to their eyeballs in military equipment. The only difference between the US military and police is the colour of the uniform and the fact that it's illegal for the military to be deployed domestically.

It's not the khaki fatigues you should be worried about, it's the blue.

American cities all the time doing routine military training exercises.
