    Even without a low surplus labor pool, an individual company (assuming it's not just a 5 person shop), paying higher wages brings up the economy for the entire area...

    Higher paid employees (Even if just a section of the overall labor pool) = greater disposable income = increased spending.

    I live in Silicon Valley, lol. The number of high paid engineers compared to the entire labor pool is actually very small, but their disposable income brings everyone up. The line out the door at Noahs Bagels every day with six people behind the counter and an overflowing tip jar speaks to this...
