    The Player of Games was really good.  I also read The Crow Road novel which I liked as well.  

    Will check this one out sometime soon.

      a mind, and too original an imagination, to settle for anything rote or humdrum.

      I liked The Crow Road, loved The Bridge, which was Banks' own favorite, of all his books.

      I've always found Iain M. Banks' SF entertaining and thoughtful. Now I've dug further into Banks, I can see that I zoomed through his explorations of other worlds, and missed a lot of the subtlety of his work.

      As I wrote in another diary,

      The Wasp Factory reminds me of The Great Gatsby or The Old Man and the Sea, in that its 180 pages feel as if they point to 600 pages more, of hidden details and plotting.
      But this applies somewhat to each of Banks' books.
