a Some Dude is someone with no money, no history of holding elected office, no famous name, etc. If you're a Congressman, you can't be a Some Dude, even if you're a backbencher with zero name recognition.

Living in Kyoto-06 (Japan), voting in RI-01, went to college in IL-01.

...better the occasional faults of a government that lives in a spirit of charity, than the consistent omissions of a government frozen in the ice of its own indifference. -FDR, 1936

as James Allen said.  He might as well be a some dude, for the amount of people who know his name.

      •  He's not a national name (3+ / 0-)

but he's been in Congress forever, he chairs a major committee, and he's popular in his district.  He won reelection with 62% in 2008 even while Obama won his district.  Among Michigan's current delegation he would actually be one of the better gets for the NRSC; he would still have an uphill battle due to the partisan lean of the state but he would have no problem in fundraising and I'm sure would start out with about as much name recognition as Peters does.

        •  No, he wouldn't have the same (2+ / 0-)

name recognition.  The same is true of just about all of the GOP reps here: outside of their districts, no one knows who they are.

Peters has done significantly more to make a name for himself since being in the House.

He'd be better than most of our Congressional delegation, I agree with you on that.  But I think you're vastly overestimating his name recognition outside of his district.
