I'm a 37 year public school veteran teacher in Maryland (DC Suburbs) and I'm stunned by this!  This sounds like a concerted plan to get experienced teachers to leave the system.   Working conditions like this will certainly drive people away. Maybe that's part of the plan.  The worst part about it is that those who are slashing the budget will guilt trip the teachers that they need to be there "for the kids."  They seem to forget that working conditions are learning conditions.  Teachers teaching out of their area of certification or carrying too many preps cannot implement the type of instruction they would like to implement.

This is unconscionable.  On the flip side, we are always hiring in Montgomery County Maryland.  Our student population is growing.  Best of luck to you.

I really worry about the public schools in PA.  We are hoping to retire to Pittsburgh, and I've been keeping an eye on their schools.  I just can't live in a place that does not value public schools as I feel strong public education is vital to our American way of life.

It cannot be stressed enough that this is all happening at a time when the state is building a $400 million prison just outside of Philadelphia.
So, yes, they do have a plan to replace experienced teachers that leave the system.  They have given up on trying to prevent anything and are going for the end game of final punishment.  This is what overwhelmed looks like.  This is what it looks like when people give up at all levels.

If we could only get an entire nation behind prevention instead of punishment...think what we could become.
