  •  I love that second flower! (9+ / 0-)

    What is it?
As for rain, well, we've had an incredible summer, and we finally got a 2.5 inch drencher last week, though a lot did run off.
One thing I always laugh at out here in the arid west is these big bridges they build over dry streambeds. I've lived in western Kansas for 14 years and never even seen a puddle under these bridges.
So this should give you an idea of where all the rain is:

Your beliefs don't make you a better person. Your behavior does.

    •  It's a pink Mexican petunia. (9+ / 0-)

The tall variety aka ruellia. They reseed like crazy but our dry conditions tend to keep them in check. I just pull the ones that seed where I don't want them. They're also available in purple ( 'stix posted a pic of one recently ) and white.

It's funny you posted that vid. I was just driving back from the nursery and was thinking about the low point in the road I take, it runs next to a storm creek,  and how it used to flood on occasion. I can't recall the last time it even had water in it let alone flood...

btw, I picked up some white dwarf ruellia ( Katy ruellia ) at the nursery. It does well in partial shade and although it's supposed to "reseed readily" like the tall variety I'm growing a bit impatient waiting for it to do so.
