The 'scholarship' program goes like this - the money the state spends on your child's education goes 'with the child' so if you are a poor parent you can choose to use your money to go to one of the several religious schools in your area.  Of course, these schools aren't required to provide transportation or meals so you have to figure out a way to get your child to the school and make sure you have $$$ to bring a lunch.

The program is designed - IIRC - for poor students so that the rich people who already send their kids to private schools aren't going to be able to participate - but I haven't seen any figures on that yet.

They were interviewing one of the several 'christian' schools in the Raleigh Area.  They were gearing up for a large increase in their enrollment because of the 'scholarship' program.

All the ALEC inspired laws - which are so much alike it is amazing to me - are a scam.  Sad day in America.  In NC, teachers haven't seen a raise in 5 years - lost their bump in pay after receiving a Master's Degree - lost Teacher Assistants and have increased class sizes AND tenure is a thing of the past.  Teachers are now on a year to year contract. TOTAL BULL SHIT..

Wisconsin has been the model that the NC General Assembly has chosen to follow.  Sad day for both our fine states.

    Why do Republicans Hate Americans?
