Who is going to challenge Hillary Clinton in '16?

I'm listening carefully for sounds of wisdom from those who have a documented history of acting their principles -- and whose general political bent seems much like my own.

Am I useless because I haven't decided on the perfect candidate 2+ years ahead of time?

      •  Acting on principles is great! (0+ / 0-)

If you want to win the Presidency, though, you can do the math: how many staff offices in how many states to win how many popular votes.  Remember, because of the Electoral College a Presidential election is actually 50 separate elections, so do your fundraising early!

        •  Of course, tho' I detect the cynicism... (0+ / 0-)

that can lead to utter alienation from the system.  Knowing that financial and ugly political calculus enters into the process is inescapable.

Deciding that those considerations always greatly outweigh policy considerations seems to me just a recipe for apathy.

After all, if they are all just lying to get power, Democrat or Republican, then what's the point?

At the grand age of 62, having voted since I first became eligible, I'd rather remain a tad naïve than sink into cynicism or despair, or admit to utter powerlessness.

          Call it a weakness.

Call it an aversion to manichaeism.

      Howard Dean?

Here's the thing, though, as long as we're doing a deeper analysis of politics and stripping away superficialities:  what does that question even mean when we really need to be asking "Can any individual who enters the Presidency get us off this course we're on?" "Has the Bush/Cheney/Rove administration permanently changed/damaged the Presidency?" "What do we do if the rule of law is truly, seriously broken?" "Who does our government answer to, and can we get it to answer to us?"
