Bush sped it up by 20 years. We might have made it to 2040 as the uncontested dominant nation; we won't make it to 2020. Yes we have the world's largest, most lethal military, but that will just speed up the decline, as the military is useless in this contest and the $T/yr is a huge drag on the economy. We have lost the moral and the political high ground. Obama has stated that it's OK to collect private data from all Americans and OK to spy on the rest of the world with impunity. We have expressed no official remorse for war crimes over the past 50 years. We have institutionalized the attitude that the US is "special" in any global relationships. Our bankers trashed the global economy, we bailed them out and instituted no significant reforms.

Gore would have been a good president if he had stayed true to his beliefs. I'm not sure he would have though, as the first thing that a liberal-leaning president does is to fill his staff with the same RW diehards. The basic dynamics will not change until we fix the structural defects in the political/economic process and we fix our attitude about ourselves.

Obama has never said that.  He said that the NSA wasn't spying on Americans.  He's either lying or the NSA is lying to him.

And if you honestly don't think that China and Russia and even Israel or any other nation state that has any sort of organized and financed military industrial complex isn't doing the same spying on America and each other, then I don't know what to tell you.

Spying is a global business that will not be stopped by the actions of Edward Snowden.  He too is very naive, but he's going to learn now about the harsh realities of this world's politics.

Also, name me a country who has expressed any remorse against war crimes.

Or better yet genocide against their own people.

You guys need to wake and smell the coffee.

I'm not saying that it's right or just or anything of the kind.  I'm just not sure what you are expecting to happen now that hasn't happen during the other 236 years of this country's existence, that's all.
