consent? Could you help me understand what special salience it has for the asexual community?

I agree it is powerful. These kinds of insights rarely come literally in words but the few that do carry such weight that they are almost self-validating.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

about consent. Because there are so many of us who are repulsed as well as simply disinterested. Because issues of consent get involved for us so much earlier in relationships, because the 'get consent before X' line comes so much sooner and includes things that society in general would not expect someone in a romantic relationship to not consent to.

"Kiss The Girl" from The Little Mermaid used to creep me out because so far as I go, that's Disney-animated assault - he doesn't ask first, even though she can nod a 'yes', and it's past my personal permanent non-consent line.

It's not that consent has particularly special definition for us, per se, but most of us are very aware of the importance of it and many of us are hyper-aware out of basic necessity. And so far as coercion goes, our definition has to include the societal forms as well as the personal forms because that's where we get hurt.

And so something that clear on non-consent being the presumption, down to excluding basic biological process ways around it, is something I'd expect to hear from a fellow asexual or a member of the kink community (where consent is similarly important for actually very similar reasons, just from the other direction as it were).
