  •  Something that is seldom explained (16+ / 0-)

is that air over land surfaces warms about twice as fast as air above the oceans.  What this means is that if the world average temperature increase would be say 8 degrees F, the average increase over land areas would be 12 degrees F!  Just multiply the world average increase by 1.5.

Every climate scientist knows this, but for some reason they seldom talk about it in interviews.  I think that it is a very important thing to know.  Most of us live on land, and something that is 50% worse than very bad is extremely bad.

We can't stop working to reduce carbon emissions.  An increase in temperature of anywhere near 10 degrees F would end civilization as we know it.  If nothing is done, it seems that temperature increases will be well about above 10 degrees F where most people live.  It wouldn't be quite as bad near the oceans, but sea level rises will destroy coastal areas.  People will have to move inland where temperatures will be unbearable.

The only way out is to rapidly reduce carbon emissions.
