    problem here is that the white people make it their station to decide what "black" is and what "racist" is, then there is some common ground here. I would have guessed that the term "quasi-black" meant that someone decided that Obama didn't qualify as a real black guy in someone eyes.

    Our political speech is full of hyperbolic metaphors that are usually justified by three or four logical fallacies. Take Godwin's Law, for example. Errant "Hitler" metaphors sanitize the past, too. (And speaking of Fox News, the recent Megyn Kelley fiasco is a pretty good example of privileged white people making decisions about what is and isn't black.)

    The problems that come with destroying our safety net are brutal. This "austerity" initiated by people who would rather keep the money for themselves causes unspeakable suffering. It destroys lives and obliterates futures for a host of people -- and it kills some of them. You're right to be horrified at it. It's just different than lynching.
