    'Music is noise'.  Many misinterpret this, but what was meant was that without nuance and 'noise', music would be like a drum machine, strictly formulaic, boring, and ultimately without worth.

    Politics is the same; religion is the same; virtually everything is the same.  Without nuance and creativity little has any worth.  It will take a lifetime to appreciate this and contribute to it, and the journey is both wonderful and appalling.

    A double major of math and music sounds fantastic.  (As a graduate student in physics back in the 60's, I also managed to take a course in composition. )

    I wish you all the best, and hope you aren't a new 'TheNephew'.  (you can look it up.)
