  •  I'd be hard pressed to say that you were being (0+ / 0-)

rolled, friend.  Not thinking that I am either actually.

A good friend who is a product of DC and pretty insightful about the full range of agencies, etc. made the point that Obama is probably not all that in control of the situation - not as an excuse for his responses - but as a reality of the behemoth we call the US Government in the early 21st Century.  I actually agree.

However, there is being rolled and then there is being rolled in DC.  Whomever allowed Obama to go out week before last and say that we were not seeing reports of abuses was rolling the President right under the bus.  He continues to show little resistance to this rolling probably because he and his acolytes within the Administration are fool enough to think that he is in fact more powerful than the spy agencies and the military apparatus, but he is not unless he starts to be far more clever and smart about the fact that even IF he is totally on their side, they will NOT hesitate to throw him under the bus in their quest for their own survival.

You see, this is shaping up to be much like the quest for bipartisanship governing that Obama started out with - and it took him four years to figure out wasn't so great for his own legacy - regardless of the fact that he might have agreed with Republicans - he got no credit for doing so, right?  Now we are watching what I think is a similarly naive engagement on the part of the President with the national security apparatus.  He goes out at stakes his reputation on defending them and their activities and they promptly allow him to be thrown under the bus.  He is in over his head, imo.  He was from the moment he was sworn in.
