    Interestingly enough I sent a bag of mild chile powder to friend in Hawaii in trade for homegrown coffee beans. One friend grew up in the Midwest, where apparently garlic is thought to be too hot, and she gave it to another friend who grew up in Oregon, who said send a hotter one.  

    Maybe try a sampler if they have one. You can also build up tolerance. I eat chile so much now, whole right odd the grill that I can take a lot of heat. Just have a handy glass of milk in case you can't handle one. Best antidote is milk fat, not water, so yogurt, cottage cheese or sour cream all work too.
