  •  The only surprise here (4+ / 0-)

is that someone actually wasted the money to run a study to prove the obvious.

Government of the people by The People and for The People. That's what we've got (with a few very honorable exceptions).

The GOP can't win on ideas. They can only win by lying, cheating, and stealing. So they do.

Something to carry forward as we pressure our Dem leaders for change.

      •  You're absolutely spot on with (2+ / 0-)

that action plan.  Dems might be a bit more capable of feeling shame than Republicans.

        •  money is a very good shame reliever (5+ / 0-)

take two checks before bedtime, and call my accountant in the morning.
          See? All better.

I am composing a letter to my senator (Bernie!!) to ask him about putting some peer pressure on his coworkers. Bernie doesn't play the game, mainly because VT politics are local level, meet 'n' greet affairs, and piles of out of state money do little to sway elections here.
But maybe a few of those who still speak to Bernie might be embarrassed a bit by this study, and by the spectacle of somebody like Sen Sanders walking the chamber floor asking individual senators "WTF?".
he's actually got the stones to do something like that, imo.

Sadly, he's one among a few rare Senators that actually works for the benefit of the 99%.

Until we get the money out of elections and politics (and that includes those cushy post-elected office gigs), we'll have no real change.  Even the rather lavish pensions with benefits that elected officials receive don't compare with the "do our bidding now and a nice position on a corporate board awaits you" offerings that I'm sure are standard operating procedure for lobbyists.

Money IS the root of all evil done in Washington DC and state capitols around the country,

      •  What actually will make them listen? (4+ / 0-)

I think we're all played off like annoying children, whose lemonade stands are to be robbed regularly.

        •  The only thing (2+ / 0-)

that gets their attention is money. A General Strike complete with pitchforks might work.

        •  Getting voted out of office (0+ / 0-)

Getting the message that, regardless of how much money they have to spend on their re-election, they'll lose if they don't deliver.

Voters are becoming wary of candidates who spend bazillions on their re-election campaigns.  They've made the connection that big money means the representative won't be working for voters, but will be for donors.
