    Interesting concept, but I'm not sure how viable this is on a large scale - we shall see. Of course, as you say, the less carbon we spew into the atmosphere, the better, so it's better than doing nothing at all, if prohibitive cost is not part of the equation.

    The German Wiki is much more detailed about CAES in connection with energy storage - the article is called "CAES storage power plant" - than the English.

    The North Sea coast apparently has a lot of potential, because of a multitude of salt dome caverns that could be washed out and utilized for storage, or abandoned mines in other areas. It's not a done deal though, as the technology doesn't appear to be very efficient yet. And Germans are not fond of inefficiency!
