But I'm not sure if people who find the comic offensive would think that that matters. It's still, on the face of it, abusive. (Even if it's exaggerated for effect.) I don't know. I suspect that various reactions go to a various ways of looking at the world--not at looking at abuse or parenting, necessarily, but something more fundamental.

I'm guessing that it's about the imbalance of power. The dad feels frustrated that he has to put up with his kid's "bullshit" thanks to those pesky laws, (because of course there's no possible legal way to deal with bullshit from kids), so he muses ironically about hiring a handy bully to punch out his kid and relieve his frustration.

Yeah I know it's a "comedic" fantasy and he's just kidding and he didn't/wouldn't actually do it, but that's the cartoon's scenario. Big wannabe bully hires little actual bully, little kid gets punched out and terrorized on his first day of school. Still looking for the hilarity here, still just seeing bullies. A cartoon about picking on someone your own size might be funny, but this one sucks IMO.

the cartoon is no better than the "Why did you make me hit you, baby?" mentality common in, ummm, certain husbands.
