    and his ilk!

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

why Dan Boren and others like him bothered to call themselves Democrats. Maybe they were the last vestiges of a state that was 100% Democratic for decades but these hangers-on don't have a Democratic bone in their body.

Oklahoma was a solidly Democratic State. Even to this day there are more registered Democratic than Republican voters.

However, they typify what we call "Dixiecrats", in that they switched their votes following the Civil Rights Act.

I suspect Dan Boren, and his father who is Chancellor of the University of Oklahoma (OU - Go Sooners), are a relic from that era.

that the Repubs now slightly outnumber registered Dems.

But your point is taken: many Oklahomans do not vote their registered party.

Oklahoma: birthplace of Kate Barnard, W. Rogers, W. Guthrie, Bill Moyers & Eliz. Warren. Home to proud progressive agitators since before statehood. Current political climate a mere passing dust cloud; we're waiting it out & planning for clearer days.
