  •  it's all the Amazon model (4+ / 0-)

...and I wish people were as upset about corporations mining their info as they are about the government.  I don't trust the government, but I sure as fuck don't trust corporations, and they're the ones packing away as many files on us as they can.

Amazon wants to keep track of (and, if possible, actually keep ownership of and just grant you access to) everything you read, listen to, and watch.  And people think that's so neat!.  Where do you think the NSA's getting a lot of their prime info?  The places where you make it available!   You wanna hunt, you wait in the place where your prey feeds.  And so do foreign governments.  If our government is mining your data, you better be damn sure other countries are.

The NRA is saving this shit for marketing.  Also, they want a mailing list to see who'll be useful to them.  Hell, before long if you go buy a shotgun, you'll get "Customers who bought shotguns also bought..." messages from Heckler & Koch.

This is what we're going to get from relying on the internet and cell phone culture for everything.  A lot of convenience, sure, but it's going to come at a price.  That's fine, but I hope nobody really expects to duck having to pay it.  This trust in technology is horribly naive.
