    as if anyone would listen:
Use that water to make concrete "lozenges", cylindrical castings that have a point at each end with a spiral fletch on the top end, cast in glass about 6 inches thick. These lozenges should be the diameter of a trident missile.
Build a submarine, just like a trident sub (we build these right here in CT) that has hatches on the bottom of the missile tubes as well as the top.
Load the lozenges into the sub and take them out to the Marianas or Aleutian trench. These are miles deep subduction zones where tectonic movement is tucking the Pacific plate under the South American and Arctic plates respectively. At the bottom of these two zones are deep mud and all of that mud and the stone underneath are a conveyor belt down into the magma.
With the submarine sitting a mile beneath the surface and 5 or 6 miles above the trench, drop the lozenges into the mud. They will accelerate as they fall and the fletches will spin them like a bullet. They will hit the mud very fast with a lot of inertia, piercing the mud and burying themselves. Robotic observers will verify that they have been covered over and if necessary, robotic bulldozers can be used to make damm sure they are covered over.
This completely removes them from the biosphere. they are not in contact with water, they are not going to float up out of the mud, more mud will accumulate over them (the trenches are the oceans' lowest point and silt flows into them constantly). The next destination for that crap is the magma wherein they will be melted and diluted back into earth's core. And by the time that happens, they will have spent their halflife.
Once Fukushima's crap is done, the sub would be the answer to the mountain of nuke crap we have sitting all over this country, all over the world, waiting for a final disposition.
No where that the monkeys can get to is safe, the monkeys will always jimmy the locks and get in, no language will live long enough to warn people of the evil that lives inside. The only real solution is to put this crap out of the biosphere completely where no form of life will be able to get anywhere near it.
100' into the mud, 7 miles beneath the ocean waves where no life is, is the only place on Earth I can see that fits that bill.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

      •  IIRC, that was loose nukes (0+ / 0-)

on the floor of the ocean, not shielded solidified waste buried in the mud in the trench, but yeah, movies have shaped our (mis)understanding of the effects of radiation.
