  •  Just saying we need a few Patriots to Act (4+ / 0-)

Don't they take oaths to defend the Constitution?  We send young men and women to die for LIES.  Could we get ONE member of Congress willing to risk his life for the TRUTH?

    •  Asking a lot. A LOT. I would quail myself if (4+ / 0-)

I had any special knowledge. All I have is principles and a sense of justice, and some courage to speak. Even that is quite a bit to ask of most Americans.

      •  I don't see how it's asking as much as we asked (2+ / 0-)

from the NG after 9/11.  Visit a VA hospital TBI ward sometime and see what we asked of young men to fight the war we fought for a lie in Iraq.  And that LIE was based on the same kind of garbage "intelligence" the lying liars in the NSA are lying about today.

So, these agencies are perfectly willing to lie us into wars and they don't care how many thousands of Americans or hundreds of thousands of foreigners die for their lies.

We shouldn't forget that. When the Obama apologists say well where is the abuse?  Well, the abuse took us into Iraq and nothing has been done since to punish the people who did that and I assume most of them are still working in the NSA, CIA etc.

        •  The same people who sent young men to die (0+ / 0-)

are the same people who have no moral compunction about what may happen to an air flight containing US Senators. They are the Shadow Government which Eisenhower warned us of. Kennedy learned the hard way. Carter learned the hard way. Reagan didnt, because he was in their pocket. Clinton avoided them altogether. Bush doubled them. Obama hoped to do what Clinton did, but ooppps.. the Shadow Government came out because of the Internet.. this new media, on his watch, so unlucky for him. He is playing for time, trying to placate both sides, the Progressive Americans for Democracy, and the Shadow Americans for Arms Deals and Perpetual Warfare. There are, and always have been, these two Americas. Sometimes, they collide, like now.

          •  True, but we shouldn't expect more courage from (1+ / 0-)

a private than we do from a Senator or from his Commander in Chief for that matter.

adventure, comraderie, and joining a powerful group. There is, and always has been, little in the way of raw national patriotism when a young man joins. That is secondary at best. When he comes home, he is more likely to describe the experience as a patriotic duty, because that is what is expected of him. But honestly, there are more basic impulses at work.

As for Senators, they also want to fight another day. I think Wyden and Udall know that for the time being they do not have to say anything and just be the 900 pound Gorillas in the room as being the only two who had the guts to SAY anything before Snowden. They should be striving for legislation, not mere showmanship, and using their inside knowledge as bargaining power to get restrictions on Runaway Intelligence in the US Corporate/Government Axis.
