    •  Thanks, I'm enjoying this new (8+ / 0-)

enterprise, practicing for an upcoming trip to Europe; taking a big circle from Munich through Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Varenna on Lake Como and up the Bernina Pass in Switzerland; ending back in Munich for Oktoberfest.

Been planing this adventure for 6 months, in essence, I'm the travel agent for my oldest friend from college days. We are being joined in Europe by my friend's niece.

I'm anxious that I've crossed all the t's.

Hoping to send you folks a photo or two, and would welcome any advice on what to not miss, good restaurants and so on from our community.

Haven't been to Europe since 1977, two-years of grad school in London and floating across the continent with Europe on $5-a-day. Wow, $5 a day.

      •  I'm looking forward to that (4+ / 0-)

I can post photos from your travels in the diary, if you like, when you send them.  Postcards from smiley7 :)  Wow, that sounds like a fantastic trip, and with an old college friend, sounds even better.  I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous.  At some point when my Lyme improves enough for a lot of walking on consecutive days, and finances improve, I'd really like to travel more.

        •  It's a great treat from my (4+ / 0-)

very generous friend. Funny, we've stayed in tough all these years, through thick and thin, mostly by phone. In fact his mom and I would spend hours on the phone.
About your Lyme, I had it, too, 1991, and I feel it's still around. When I wake and can't feel my fingerprints, an odd smooth sensation, I know I'm in for a bad day.
Have I asked your before Joanne, have you tried Malic acid?
          It helped me.

Malic acid.  In food or supplements?

            •  It's a natural product from apples, I think... (2+ / 0-)

I recall that it takes a little while to kick in, about two months. I was desperate as all the many antibiotics, too many in retrospect, didn't cure my symptoms like not being able to walk up stairs, joint pain and lethargy.

I found out about Malic acid from Chronic Fatigue and Lyme testimonials.

I also took Co-enzyme Q10 and an ATP cell producer, but I'm rather sure that when I added Malic Acid it helped the most.

I took Malic Acid in pill form.

smiley7. Do you happen to remember what brand you used?  KBO is going to order some right now. I've taken CoQ10 in the past and IIRC, it seemed to help.  I need to do better with the supplements.  I'm finding that kefir and probiotics are really helpful too.  I've got a few other supplements, Curcumin, cat's claw and the omega oils.  Keeping the inflammation under control has so many benefits. If it starts getting to much out of control the neuro symptoms kick in and I get the brain fog, halted speech, etc.  Steps are still a problem, not only because of the pain but the risk of losing balance when the neuro symptoms are flaring up.

Did find this for dosage recommendations, http://www.livestrong.com/...

                  http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/...

                  Found this testimonial: http://treato.com/...
"I had lyme disease back in 1990. I was treated successfully with tetracycline. I now have fibromyalgia. I have been experiencing hip pain at night. Chronic fatigue is quite similar. I found a natural remedy to relieve it.
Malic Acid. It's found in fruits. A supplement is available through different vitamin companies. The acid is extracted from apples. it has the highest malic acid content. I take 1200 mg. per day. 600 in the morning and at night. Magnesiuim should be taken with it. 300 mg. per day. It relaxes the muscles. Give the malic acid time to work. You won't notice any difference for at least 48 hours. The longer you take it, the more relief you will get. Good luck."

                   ..............................

                  Fingers crossed :)
