    •  MORE Republicans probably would bail, otherwise! (0+ / 0-)

I was a Democrat through JFK's administration, but admired --- and then luckily became friends with --- Barry Goldwater in an amazing moment in Des Moines, Iowa, during his 1964 campaign.  And stuck with that party through thick and thin (even Nixon) until becoming a supporter of Bill Clinton.  I was even a member of my county's Republican Central Committee, and a convention delegate.  But for decades, I worked WITHIN the party, trying to help fellow Republicans to see how badly it was becoming INFESTED with lemmings of the RRR Cult --- the Religious Radical Right --- and how truly batsh*t-crazy were the hate-agendas of that cult filled with CINOs --- Christians in Name Only.

I finally had to conclude that the Republican Party had become TOO poisoned by RRR Cult bigotry, irrationality, and ignorance, and that only the Democrats retained fairness, compassion, and common sense.  So I bailed, and resumed proudly being a Democrat.  And happily found myself surrounded once again with honest and genuine egalitarians.

My only regret is that I was unable to take that action without hurting the feelings of many non-bigoted friends in the Republican Party. And to avoid doing that, I had delayed becoming a Democrat again for several years.  Until I absolutely could no longer STAND to be a Republican.

I see as the only hope for the Republican Party to ever again have the relevance and trustworthiness that it had back in 1964 is for it to take ALL of the UN-Christian and hateful planks OUT of the Party's platform, and burn them!  And for them to DISAVOW all of the irrational hate-agendas of the RRR Cult, and serve notice of that to all of the cultists who remained within it.  Until and unless that day comes, I hope that the House will go Democratic next year, and that the Republican Party will never again occupy the White House until it has taken those steps.
