    Few socialist parties in Europe hold power these days. And as for their moving in a rightward, pro-corporate direction, that is related to how many compromises they must make with conservative governments to have any impact at all on major issues.

    Never mentioned in socialism-bashing by RW media is the fact that Western European socialist parties have always been wedded to capitalism. Even during during the post-war years of the "Swedish economic miracle", 97 % of Swedish industry remained in private hands. And here in Spain, it was the Socialist government of Felipe Gonzalez that shut down the State's steel factories and shipyards decades ago - much as the conservative Thatcher did with coal mines in the UK.
