Of sex reassignment surgery. Manning has expressed a desire to have access to a hormone treatment, which is not very expensive for the facility to provide, comparatively. I think of this as a social and compassion issue, rather than one about insurance coverage or dollar costs.

IS sex reassignment treatment, and that is not covered by military health insurance.  I didn't say 'surgery' I said 'sex reassignment' and neither the hormone treatments, nor the surgery, are part of military medical insurance.

That many private insurance companies are also bigoted is irrelevant.  The AMA and APA consider it a medical condition.

Don't defend a bigot with another bigot.

I was pointing out that Manning has not been singled out in not getting sex reassignment treatment: this is a policy that applies to all soldiers, and many if not most Americans; including myself and other subscribers to Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

          •  And your point... (0+ / 0-)

(apart from bigotry being widespread) is.....?

Or were you actually trying to say that it's not bigotry to cover things like viagra and wart removal while not covering a medical condition for which a third of its sufferers will try to kill themselves at least once in their life?

And also, since when does twelve equal seven?  And where does it say the list is exhaustive?

            •  I'll repeat (0+ / 0-)

Manning was not singled out to be denied treatment.  There is no covered treatment for anyone in the military for gender dysphoria.

The diary, and subsequent comments, imply that somehow Manning was being singled out and mistreated, but the fact is no one in the military receives coverage for this treatment so it's not a Manning issue.  Portraying it as some sort of punishment in addition to the punishment Manning has been convicted of is simply not true.

What part of this is difficult?

for Manning is not accurate.  What part of THAT is difficult?
