    and Alan Durning, will have to check it out. But the car still is the holy grail of American urban planning, and I think something really ridiculous like 97% of the federal transportation budget goes towards automobile infrastructure. That right there says it all. It's a cultural habit that's heavily subsidized by policy and budget. Sort of a chicken/egg dilemma, don't know which came first, people probably adopted car culture all on their own but not without a helping hand from the oil and car industries.
