  •  Eh, sort of both. (6+ / 0-)

At it's absolute worst, you can't even think in words. Language rules the normal human brain. When that's gone your mind is flooded with these overwhelming emotions and feelings. Things I never would have noticed before suddenly wrenched my gut.

I am 100% certain I know how animals think. They feel, and in spades. I am also 100% certain they love.

My mind was only like that for a short time. You've got to understand, I didn't do much but sleep for about my first four days in the hospital. After that, when I woke up, wolfed down the first meal I'd had in days, I could think in words again.

Speech is a pretty complex activity. Signals fly back, forth and all over your brain every time you say a syllable. At least one of the connections in mine was still on the fritz. I knew what I wanted to say but I couldn't spit it out. For a short time, I adapted by forcing my mouth into the shape I knew it had to be in to make the sound I wanted to say. It was sort of like playing the piano by memorizing which key to hit and when--you may get through Chopsticks but it's no way to play Clair de Lune.

Now I'm back to babbling without thinking.
