    They were pretty common in Pennsylvania and I used to keep a colony of them as pets.  A few times, I did experiments with them by popping one into the freezer. What I found was that they could not go directly from summer heat to freezer and survive, but they could go from chilly late fall/early winter temps to freezer and emerge happily. So it seemed to me that the frogs needed to adjust over time to the falling temperatures.

    It was, btw, utterly surreal to see them clunk, frozen solid, on top of a table, only to happily hop away a few hours later when they thawed out.
