  •  Sigh (7+ / 0-)

Ia m so tired of hearing about the miracles in places like North Dakota and Texas.  These places are not any better than any other state.  They just happen to be sitting on large deposits of finite resources.

It's funny because as some people have began moving to these states, they are now experiencing the same problems that states which people have actively sought to live in have experienced for years.  A lack of affordable housing, a shortage of water as aquifers made to handle a communi of around 15K now have to handle the needs of 40k, overcrowding of schools.

All of these problems lead to, wait for it.......HIGHER TAXES.  Texas especially can go fuck off.  Smething like 30% of the population works for either the Federal, State, or local governments, or services contracts for the aforementioned entities.  Small government my ass.

    •  Extraction economies are doomed (6+ / 0-)

in the long run. All economies based on extraction of natural non-renewable resources are doomed to fail. The base of wealth creation being a finite commodity, when the resource is no longer viable to be extracted, all that wealth will flee. What is left behind is then no longer sustainable, as wealth is no longer being created.

All mining towns, oil boom towns, eventually die out. Entire states that base their economy on those things too will find themselves in a bad way eventually.

Extraction as part of an economy is valuable, but the wealth it creates must be reinvested into more sustainable economic models of actually creating things rather than selling commodities. That means renewable resource creation and manufacturing, and services based on those things.

To tweet or not to tweet. I tweet therefore I am.
