    laugh.

That might work for some fields and some fields already credit people for time they've spent working.

However, I'm in an allied health field. Do you really want your doctor or dentist or vet or nurse or PT or speech-language pathologist to have fast-tracked it out of their professional training program because they basically have life experience?

There is a reason why our national accrediting agencies require passing grades in the preprofessional course work at the undergrad level and passing grades and competencies at the graduate levels. It's because, first and foremost, as professionals we must do no harm.

    •  And even then it's not a new idea (2+ / 0-)

Credit by examination, for example. I have an advisee who's worked a lot in radio. She walked over to the Communication department, took a few exams, and voila - she had a bunch of COMM credits. Heck, there's a whole testing industry based on getting credit for "life experience."

But yeah, not the best idea for health care.

Conservatives believe evil comes from violating rules. Liberals believe evil comes from violating each other.
