    by "Beyond Vietnam": "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death". Let's see what Mitt Romney or any other Republican had to say about that. And no one tell them that it echoes Eisenhower's "Cross of Iron" speech.

      Martin Luther King Jr. would be astonished to see 5 decades later how:

      1) large our military budget is (and don't forget to include those portions covered in Dept of Energy and off budget wars)

      2) how many arms the US exports globally.

      3) how many countries we extend our military bases to.

      Spiritually, this country is on life support.  Collectively our sense of priorities is a modern horror.

      Unfortunately even many progressives have little recognition of MLK's thoughts on militarism.
