    If she runs and embarrasses herself, that's one thing, but if she runs and does even slightly better than Democrats usually do--say 44 percent overall--she's probably fine for a future race. Her seat will be tough to hold, and we've got to run someone, so why not her and why not now?

      It's not as though she's giving up a safe seat in the state Senate.  In a bad year for Democrats, she probably loses her Senate seat.

      Plus, Abbott is kind of a paper tiger.  He won't be easy to beat, to be sure, but I don't think he's unbeatable.
