sequester is doing to their pocketbooks. That probably comes from living in a town reliant upon a military base and a national park as its two employers.

But even that leads back to jobs, healthcare and education, because those are also the areas where sequestration is hitting us hardest.

NSA spying? Not so much, at least not until I explain what has been going on. It disturbs them, but it has just not overtaken the other issues as a topic of dinner table conversation.

The problems behind the NSA spying scandal go to the very foundation of how our government works.  When our leaders have gotten so far off track and are focused so much on quelling honest dissent and controlling public opinion and discourse, it has a corrosive impact on government overall.

Americans will continue to rank jobs/economy and health care issues as top priorities, but the structural problems in our government that domestic spying represents make it very difficult for those improvements to happen.

Our government leaders and the general public live in two completely different worlds these days and citizens have less and less power to influence public policy.  That needs to be fixed.
