  •  oh, I agree with that (15+ / 0-)

when there's a war (even if it's no more than a "kinetic operation" which places none of our own in danger but just kills lot of brown people on the other side of the world) all rally around Old Glory and acclaim the War Prez

I can see already the "USA kicks ass" crowd glued to CNN and applauding at the fireworks while munching junk and forgetting that other human beings are being slaughtered

at such times anything critical of the Administration is taken as a betrayal of the country itself and is at the very least frowned up...

We're shocked by a naked nipple, but not by naked aggression.

They started a war in Iraq to affect fundamental political change thru-out the region.

What they started was a dynamic and wildfire that does not have a means to control or tap down.

I suspect that over time Arab Spring will grow to be Arab pan nationalism as a regional phenomenon. That the astro turfed principalities put together by UK and France after WWI will dissolve as the 21 Century unfolds.

        •  That was the sales pitch. They started the war (7+ / 0-)

          for two reasons:

to create an "Other" that would make the people 'need' to accept their military transformation to total war to create a  'Pax Americana'.

To control the spigot on the oil in the strategic jewel of the world.

Transformation of their society and transition to Democracy was the sales pitch.

Democracy - 1 person 1 vote. Free Markets - More dollars more power.
