  •  JUST MARRIED (4+ / 0-)

in Doña Ana County, New Mexico.  Thanks to courageious unilateral action by the County Clerk, same-sex marriages have begun in New Mexico!

Thanks to a gender-neutral state constitution and an absence of adverse precedents, there is every chance that the NM Supreme Court will soon be ruling in favor of the validity of these marraiges.

In the meantime, Santa Fe county has also started issuing same-sex licenses under friendly court order, and several other counties in the Albuquerque metro area may soon follow suit.  On the opposition side, Republican Governor Susana Martinez is calling for a statewide vote on a Constitutional amendment, but while that is noxious and would involve some risk, I still think we could win.
