The side of intervention. No matter which party controls the White House & Congress, within the foreign-policy establishment, the bias is always toward intervention. Both parties espouse notions of American "exceptionalism", the belief that the U.S. is such a uniquely righteous country that it need not feel bound by international law or the rules of war, need not respect other countries' sovereignty. Both parties believe in using U.S. military power to achieve their foreign-policy goals. Both believe that the use of military power, in & of itself, is always right & just - doesn't matter which side we're on. The goal here is to deprive Iran of its crucial regional ally; if that means aligning with al Qaeda, so be it. In this battlefield, they will be defined as the "good guys".
